Graham BaughmanOn Jan. 7, Venture Connectors will host Graham Baughman, CEO of WhiteBox Learning, a pioneer in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. America is producing fewer STEM-trained graduates than ever before. Baughman will discuss how the innovative, web-based learning platform combines 3D engineering with 3D gaming to help students develop critical thinking skills and inspire more of them to choose STEM-related careers.

WhiteBox Learning entered the STEM education market in 2010 and is now the fastest growing STEM/engineering education provider in the United States. More than 100,000 students at 700 schools in grades 6 to 12 currently are using the company’s STEM learning system, and more than half of America’s 100 largest school districts have implemented it.

Baughman formerly served as president of Thorntons Inc., Kentucky’s largest privately held company with more than $2.5 billion in annual revenue. After leaving Thorntons and before co-founding the WhiteBox Learning startup, Baughman wrote a book, titled: “I’d Be More Spiritual with a Billion Bucks: Connecting Spirituality Through the Language of Success.” Baughman holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an MBA in finance, both from the University of Kentucky. He and his wife, Molly Baughman, co-founded The Music Box in 2006, a 501(c)3 charity that provides musical instruments and music education to children who otherwise may not have access to them.

Venture Connectors’ luncheon meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the meeting runs from noon-1:15 p.m. Registration is required. RSVP here.
